МОСКВА, 30 окт — РИА Новости. Сильный взрыв прогремел в воскресенье в районе аэропорта на Мальте, сообщает газета Sun.

По словам очевидцев, сначала прогремел мощный взрыв, а после послышались несколько менее громких взрывов.

Согласно опубликованным кадрам издания, в районе аэропорта виден высокий столб дыма.  По данным очевидцев, инцидент произошел в расположенном близ аэропорта населенном пункте.

​Также поступили сообщения, что взрыв произошел на территории фабрики по производству фейерверков, которая расположена в поселке Гуджа.

По данным Sun, в аэропорту было объявлено о задержке рейсов, пока местные власти проверяют, на сколько серьезен инцидент для работы аэропорта. Официальная информация со стороны властей о взрыве не поступала.

Witnesses posted pictures showing dark smoke billowing from a nearby village

There was a series of smaller blasts after the main explosion, which bystanders compared to an “earthquake”.

A number of flights in and out of the airport were delayed while officials assessed how serious the situationwas.

The explosion came from a nearby firework factory in Gudja, which is currently celebrating the Feast of Our Lady of Consolation.

The fireworks were unused from yesterday’s festival due to the weather and being stored in a container when the blast happened, the Times of Malta reports.

Terrified eyewitnesses posted pictures online showing massive plumes of dark smoke rising from where the blast happened.

One local resident said: “It was a powerful explosion followed by a number of smaller ones, the big one felt like an earthquake.”

Another witness said: “We were passing by in my car with all the windows closed and the blast literally shook my car heavily.”

Nobody was injured, but two people were treated for anxiety.
